We are seeking Tigrinya Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Tigrinya is a critical rare language used in asylum and immigration cases, particularly for applicants from Eritrea and northern Ethiopia.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time Tigrinya ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Interpret accurately, impartially, and confidentially in immigration and legal settings.
  • Adhere to USCIS/DHS compliance standards and professional interpreter ethics.
  • Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge calls.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance reviews.
Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Tigrinya and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, medical, or government preferred).
  • Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong telephone communication skills; ability to stay accurate under pressure.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
