We are seeking Fukienese (also known as Hokkien) Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Fukienese is a critical Chinese dialect often required for asylum and immigration cases, especially among applicants from Fujian province and overseas Chinese communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time Fukienese (Hokkien) ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Interpret with accuracy, neutrality, and professionalism in immigration, legal, and administrative settings.
  • Adhere to USCIS/DHS compliance standards and interpreter ethics.
  • Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge requests.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and QA audits.
Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Fukienese (Hokkien) and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, or community interpreting preferred).
  • Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
  • Strong telephone communication and accuracy under pressure.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 security clearance.
