We are seeking Serbo-Croatian Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Serbo-Croatian, covering Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, and Montenegrin dialects, is a priority Balkan language group for asylum and immigration proceedings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time Serbo-Croatian ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Interpret accurately, impartially, and confidentially in immigration, legal, and administrative settings.
  • Adhere to USCIS/DHS interpreter standards and ethics.
  • Manage both scheduled and urgent/surge assignments.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and QA audits.
Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Serbo-Croatian (Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, or Montenegrin) and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, government, or community preferred).
  • Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
  • Strong telephone communication skills and ability to remain accurate under pressure.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
