We deliver secure, high-quality language access in more than 80 spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies.

We are seeking Ixil (Ixel) Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Ixil, an indigenous Mayan language spoken primarily in the El Quiché region of Guatemala, is a rare but high-demand language often needed for asylum and immigration cases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time Ixil (Ixel) ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and asylum proceedings.
  • Interpret accurately, impartially, and with cultural sensitivity in immigration and legal contexts.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
  • Support both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge requests.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance reviews.
Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Ixil (Ixel) and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, legal, community, or NGO settings strongly preferred).
  • Deep cultural understanding of Mayan/Guatemalan indigenous communities.
  • Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and neutrality standards.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
