We are seeking Krio Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Krio, an English-based Creole language widely spoken in Sierra Leone and by diaspora communities, is a rare but important language frequently required in asylum and immigration cases.
Responsibilities
- Provide real-time Krio ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and asylum proceedings.
- Deliver interpretation with accuracy, neutrality, and professionalism in immigration and legal contexts.
- Maintain confidentiality in line with USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
- Support both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge requests.
- Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance reviews.
Qualifications
- Native or near-native fluency in Krio and English.
- 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, community, or NGO/government preferred).
- Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
- Strong telephone communication skills; ability to remain accurate under pressure.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
