We provide secure, high-quality language access in more than 80 spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies.

We are seeking Maay Maay (Maymay) Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Maay Maay is a Somali dialect spoken primarily in southern Somalia and among diaspora communities, and is often required in asylum and immigration cases where Standard Somali is not sufficient.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time Maay Maay ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Deliver interpretation with accuracy, impartiality, and professionalism in asylum and immigration proceedings.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
  • Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation calls.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance audits.
Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Maay Maay (Maymay) and English (knowledge of Standard Somali is a plus).
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, legal, community, or NGO/government preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of interpreter ethics, neutrality, and confidentiality.
  • Cultural familiarity with Somali-speaking communities, especially in southern Somalia.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 security clearance.
