We provide secure, high-quality language access in more than 80 spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies.

We are seeking Sorani Kurdish Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Sorani, one of the two main dialects of Kurdish (primarily spoken in Iraq and Iran), is a priority Middle Eastern language for asylum, refugee, and immigration cases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time Sorani Kurdish ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Interpret with accuracy, impartiality, and professionalism in asylum and immigration proceedings.
  • Maintain confidentiality under USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
  • Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation needs.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and QA audits.
Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Sorani Kurdish and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, medical, NGO, or government strongly preferred).
  • Strong understanding of interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and neutrality standards.
  • Familiarity with cultural contexts in Iraqi and Iranian Kurdish communities.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 federal clearance.
